Project Details
Circular Quay is the hub of Sydney Harbour, situated at a small inlet called Sydney Cove. Circular Quay is one of Sydney’s key transport interchanges, with around 170,000 customers passing through every week. Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian says that the upgrade is vital in ensuring the quay remains a world-class facility: “While everyday transport customers are our priority, the significance of Circular Quay for Sydney’s tourism can’t be underestimated.” Circular Quay Wharf refresh project is part of the NSW government’s $3 million upgrade to Circular Quay Wharf.
The project aim was to improve the function and amenity of Wharves 2, 3, 4, and 5 by refreshing and enhancing the appearance of the wharves. It involved the cleaning, painting and upgrading of the lighting and electrical services to Wharves 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Bermagui Constructions achieved a workable balance between maintaining project momentum in accordance with the delivery program and the operational requirements and expectations of the following stakeholders:
- APP Corporation
- Harbour City Ferries (HCF)
- City of Sydney
- TNSW
- RMS
- Sydney Busses
- Sydney Trains
Communication with project stakeholders was key to ensure that the project objectives were achieved with minimal disruption to the adjoining owners and businesses, authorities and service providers that Bermagui Constructions interacted with throughout the project.
Due to the close proximity of the site to neighbours, public areas and the adjacent public infrastructure, Bermagui Constructions carried out the project outside the busy peak hours and in a manner designed to cause minimal disruption to the activities of others.
The upgrades carried out on wharves two, three, four and five included:
- new and more comfortable seating on all four wharves;
- improvements to lighting to make the wharves lighter and brighter;
- fresh paint on all wharves;
- installing extra bins and cleaning and polishing stainless steel fixtures;
- a full deep clean of all surfaces areas including floors, walls, ceilings, glass balustrades, fixtures and fittings;
- repairing, cleaning and sealing floors where required.
