Zero Incidents. Zero Injuries

The conventional wisdom in the industry is that “whatever we do you will never stop accidents”. Bermagui Constructions do not accept that view.

It was imperative that all our site staff and subcontractors shared our goal and shared a common belief – “Injuring people is simply unacceptable”. They needed to believe that it was possible to eliminate incidents and injuries.

To eliminate accidents, it isn’t enough to set up sites safely and introduce rigorous processes to minimise risk. The key difference is in behaviour.

For us, it started at the top. Our senior management were utterly committed and made the safety of our staff, our subcontractors and the public an absolute priority.

We have invested in a programme of initiatives to engage every single member of our site teams.

When you walk onto a Bermagui Constructions site, you will see from start to finish, a well planned site, carefully laid out with clear signage, exceptional facilities, segregation of vehicles and people and clear, tidy walkways and work areas.

As well as creating safe places to work we have invested in the attitudes and behaviour of our staff, supervisors, project leaders and the many subcontractors who work at our sites. Everyone is inducted before they start work on site and we ensure that they fully engage with our beliefs and our processes. Above all we ask everyone never to take a risk: because individuals who take risks, risk the lives of others. On a Bermagui Constructions site, people put the safety of their colleagues first.

Our journey to Zero was not only about safety. Zero is a philosophy to deliver Building Excellence. We define excellence as a project delivered to the highest quality, safely, on time, on budget and in an atmosphere of trust, respect, fairness and partnership. We take pride in our relationships as much as our work.
